Jay McDee was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on June 23, 1990. Even though Jay
has a passion for singing music his creativity first shined through his
love for theater. Before even learning to walk Jay was singing and
dancing around everywhere. From putting on shows at neighborhood
feasts to dancing in his own living room, and even singing along to the
radio in the car, Jay always loved to perform. After being in the
school chorus and plays in elementary school his parents thought
they’d get him some professional help. In 2001 Jay was sent to a
performing arts camp in Massachusetts where he worked directly with
people who helped to teach artists like Britney Spears how to sing and
dance. After returning for seven consecutive years he worked with
vocal coach Doc Holliday, crump dancer Lil’ Tommy and has even worked
with people that helped bring fame to rap artist 50 Cent. In 2003 Jay
performed in the Thanksgiving Day parade for a Camp Broadway production;
a dedication to Bob Hope where he sang and danced to a original song
created by musical director Mary Ehlinger and worked with former
Broadway star Tony Parise. Giving Jay this opportunity to obtain a
sense of theater he went to the Edward R. Murrow High School which is
one of the biggest theater schools in Brooklyn. There he took theater
and acting classes and performed in shows such as Cabaret. Jay has also
joined the competition dance school Dimensions in Dance to improve his
dancing technique and to broaden his range on different dance styles.
Now as Jay attends Hunter College in Manhatten he has realized that his
passion was not just theater, but to perform and strive for center
stage. As Jay started to write his own songs he began working with
music producer Tony Collucio, who has worked with artists such as Gloria
Estafan, Whitney Houston, and Janet Jackson. Together Jay and Tony
created a song called “Come Dance.” Every adventure Jay enters seems
to become a new reality for him. His passion to create music and
perform for others is now just a dream, but soon hopes it to become a
new chapter in the life of Jay McDee.
